Roma’s Soule on Inter: ‘Obviously they are the strongest’

Matias Soule could not hide his frustration at the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma led the champions by two goals and finished the evening with only a point.

With quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Argentine spoke to DAZN after the 2-2 draw, in which Manu Kone’s first-half brace was wiped out by two Lautaro Martinez goals.

“I am really tired and a bit disappointed because we were 2-0 up,” Soule said. “We must not get down on ourselves, because competing like this against Inter is very good and it has to give us energy to do much better in the coming matches.”

Soule: ‘They are the strongest’

Asked how much ground still separates Roma from Cristian Chivu’s side, the forward was careful not to overstate his team’s progress. “Obviously they are the strongest, they have been for a few years. There is disappointment, but this draw has to give us a charge for a championship that is still very long.”

He was more upbeat about his own condition, having spent last season managing a groin problem.

“I feel very good physically, the pubalgia has gone,” Soule said. “I worked hard on it over the holidays and now I feel very good. Last year I could barely train.”

Gian Piero Gasperini has been using him on the left, a switch he is still adapting to. “Playing on the left, I have to get used to it. I do not feel the same as when I play on the right, but I try to help my teammates because Paulo is over there and he makes the difference.”

Soule also pointed to the depth Roma now have. “We are all available. Against Atalanta, Mora did very well. We are a very competitive team, the level has risen a lot. We are more of a family.”

The context makes the disappointment easier to read. Roma had won all four of their opening fixtures and arrived level on points with Inter at the top, conceding only once. Kone, a player Inter pursued hard in recent months, punished them twice inside 37 minutes, the second surviving a VAR check after the offside flag had gone up.
