Romano: ‘Here we go’ – Leipzig reach agreement with Milan to loan Nkunku

RB Leipzig have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Christopher Nkunku, as reported by Fabrizio Romano this evening.

Nkunku is one of the players that Ruben Amorim decided to exclude from the squad, making it very clear that they need to leave to get playing time. This immediately resulted in many rumours about possible destinations for the Frenchman.

In the last few days, however, it became clear that RB Leipzig and Newcastle were the frontrunners in the race. A return to the German side, where Nkunku got his breakthrough back in the day, always seemed to be the most concrete option though.

Nkunku’s exit now imminent

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, it has been confirmed that Nkunku will indeed end up at RB Leipzig. The ‘Here we go’ was tweeted this evening as a verbal agreement has been reached with Milan for a paid loan, valued at €3.5m, and a buy-out option at just under €30m.

Nkunku’s salary will be covered by the German club this season, which certainly helps, although the paid loan amount isn’t enough to cover the amortisation. Anyway, the deal should become official soon, provided nothing goes wrong with the medical tests.

You could argue that an option to buy isn’t ideal for Milan, as opposed to an obligation, but the feeling is that they didn’t have much of a choice in the end.
