Romano assesses ‘perfect’ derby win, the restart and Milan’s mercato targets: “A busy January”
Today, Fabrizio Romano has taken an in-depth look at AC Milan, their big weekend result and what’s next for the club.
After the Derby della Madonnina, there’s a very strong feeling surrounding Milan. All of a sudden, talk of winning a Scudetto under Ruben Amorim has gained genuine traction, and the group looks closer than ever.
It’s not going to be easy, of course, but the Portuguese is obsessed with the idea of lifting the Serie A trophy with the Rossoneri, referencing as much in his press conference earlier today.
If that is going to happen this season, though, they will need to invest in January. After all, the squad remains shallow and extra support is very much needed.
Romano looks at the Milan picture
Speaking to Time2Play.com, Romano looked at several things, including the derby and what the next few months could look like for the Diavolo.
“A derby can change the world. Because often, dynamics are triggered on and off the pitch, the atmosphere clears in an instant, and everyone contributes.
“AC Milan knows this well: a week ago, the home defeat against Bologna had brought much criticism, though it was also clearly the result of fatigue and significant absences, given the relentless pace of matches.
“But immediately afterwards, AC Milan set up their perfect derby—on and off the pitch, it’s no small matter—to build on and not just sit back.
“Because on the pitch, from Moreira to the usual Rabiot and Ruben Amorim, defended tooth and nail by Cardinale, everyone contributed that touch that led to the three points with a ferocious approach that became a winner.
“Off the pitch, Gerry Cardinale himself left his mark. Never like this.”
AC Milan restarts from its history…
“The induction of legends during the week, Ricardo Kaká in the Hall of Fame, the announcement of the new stadium alongside Inter, interviews to staunchly defend Ruben Amorim, and above all, the desire to continue improving his AC Milan 2.0 starting… in January.
“Yes, because the Rossoneri’s post-derby signals are about building, not just about exaltation. This is where we need to start again, laying the foundations for a different, fierce, and winning Milan, like the one seen in the derby, which clearly can’t be enough.”
Here’s the new Head of Football…
“And the first announcement will be that of the new Head of Football: Milan has a sealed verbal agreement with Markus Krösche, the man who has done a great job at Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years, both in scouting talent and capital gains, ready to take over the Rossoneri project.
“Krösche will be active for the January transfer window and will be in direct contact with Cardinale regarding the Rossoneri’s new plans.
“He’s a figure generating enthusiasm at Casa Milan, having already been the first choice since last June: Cardinale preferred to wait a few months to have his priority rather than fall back on managers who weren’t first choices. Now, the Krösche era is about to begin.”
The objectives for January?
“Milan’s objectives? It’s going to be a busy January: the defender could and should have arrived at the end of August, but there was no timeline or method. Milan has reinstated Tomori, but at least one defensive reinforcement is already planned for January.
“The favourite since June has been Sporting’s Gonçalo Inacio, but Milan has at least three other options on the list and has recently also sent Sylla of Union St. Gilloise to scout. It might not end there: keep an eye on the attack, where an additional option to give Gonçalo Ramos a rest shouldn’t be ruled out if the right opportunity presents itself.
“Assessments about Franceso Camarda will be made in the coming weeks, but Milan is exploring the transfer market and will continue to surprise. At least one signing, likely two. And then… the transfer market will dictate inspiration, ideas, and innovations.
“With new players and a Rossoneri that has never been so fired up in recent years.”
For the first time in a while, it’s a continued stream of positive news for Milan, which is only a good thing.
