Renna frustrated with Milan Primavera’s lack of maturity after Roma defeat: “Stupid”

Giovanni Renna spoke to the club’s channels after Milan Primavera’s defeat against Roma, once again putting themselves in a difficult position.

The defeat to Hellas Verona last weekend was followed up by yet another defeat earlier today. Instead of one red card as against the Gialloblu, Milan received two this time out and thus didn’t make life easy for themselves, even if the second red card came right at the end.

After the game, the head coach Giovanni Renna was interviewed by MilanTV (via MilanNews) and shared his thoughts on what went wrong for his side. Among other things, he mentioned the lack of maturity, as seen with the cards.

How do you rate the match?

“I’m talking about maturity: we need to improve on this. Not all of the boys played in this age group last year, so it’s understandable that they may still have to learn from situations like this. It’s the second time we have gone down to ten men and it punishes us.

“I don’t want to talk about the second sending off, which was stupid. You know, in the 93rd minute, we could have avoided that too and focused on the next match…”

What positive things do you take home?

“Five chances, two of which were very clear and could have given us the lead. They were good and clinical: they scored at the first opportunity. I take home the performance, the fact that we played against an open team and that we can easily compete with anyone.”

The strong start to the season, with two wins and one draw, has now practically been erased as the Primavera need to regroup and get back on track. To do so, a first step is definitely to stop taking red cards.
