Pulisic insists he ‘always wanted to renew’ with Milan after confirmation: “Wanted to stay”
Christian Pulisic has finally signed a renewal to stay with AC Milan, and he spoke after it was confirmed this afternoon.
It’s a big day for Milan. After years of negotiations, Pulisic has put pen to paper on a new deal to signify his importance to the club. Indeed, the American has been in talks across three seasons over a new deal. Yet, nothing was ever officially done.
Instead, talks broke down on two occasions and this felt like the final opportunity to agree on terms, even if a clause was available to extend his stay for another year past next summer. Thankfully, that option was not needed, though, and the American has signed a new deal to keep him at San Siro until 2031.
Pulisic speaks
Speaking to Sky Sport, via MilanNews, after the official confirmation of his renewal dropped, he admitted that he’d always hoped to renew his deal at San Siro, as well as looking ahead to the derby.
“Your contract renewal until 2031 is now official. How happy are you?”
“I’m very happy; renewing has always been my dream. I’ve always wanted to stay here, where I feel great confidence. I’m very happy here.”
“Tomorrow is the derby, which is always a special match. What kind of match will it be?”
“We know the derby is very intense; it’s a battle, and it will be the same tomorrow. I always want to score, not just in the derby. I want to help the team. We want to win.”
“Which Inter will you face tomorrow?”
“We know that Inter have won a lot in recent years and that they play very well. Since I’ve been here, I’ve always seen them like this: a team that always plays well, always at the same level, and that deserves respect.
“But for us, the important thing is to focus on ourselves and put in a good performance tomorrow. If we do things right, we have a chance to win.”
“What do you think of AC Milan and Amorim’s project?”
“Yes, we always want to win: it can’t be any different with this jersey. It’s clear that it takes time, because there’s a new coach with new ideas, but we also want to win right away.
“We have a good relationship with the staff and the coach, we’re very happy and we’re learning something every day. Now we have to keep improving and win the championship.”
“What’s your dream with AC Milan?”
“A dream? Right now, it’s still the same dream, the same one as when I arrived.”
