PM: Back to square one – Azzurri without Milan representation in Mancini’s first squad

In recent squads, AC Milan have had quite a few international call-ups. However, it appears they’re back to square one with the national team.

Having an Italian core is an idea that many Milanisti desire. It’s something to be proud of, players from your club – who support your club – representing your country. Of course, it also shows that your players are doing well.

However, it has been too common that Milan have been without anyone in the national team in recent years.

Mancini overlooks Milan

The current Rossoneri squad has plenty of talent within it who could and maybe should have been given a call-up, the likes of Matteo Gabbia and Davide Bartesaghi. Then, you also have the younger options in Alphadjo Cisse and Francesco Camarda, as Pianeta Milan writes.

From a Diavolo perspective, it may not be the worst thing; it allows Gabbia to recover, whilst allowing the youngsters more time to work on Amorim’s system. Yet, it shows that, again, Milan are not seen as an attractive place for Italians to get international call-ups.

With a return to Europe this season – something which hopefully becomes the norm again – having international Italians would only be a good thing. If they’re homegrown, well, that’s even better…
