Pazzini defends Amorim and Modric: “I want to give Milan more time”

The former AC Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini has defended the comments of Ruben Amorim, stating that the Rossoneri absolutely deserve more time.

So far, Milan have collected eight points in the league, winning two and drawing two games. That’s far from a poor record, but the first defeat of the season was registered against Benfica earlier this week. As such, also given the two draws, the pressure is on to beat Lecce tonight.

Amorim has been criticised for his comments as well as team selection lately, and it’s something he responded to at the presser yesterday. The former Milan man Pazzini, who scored 24 goals for the club, has defended the manager’s approach (via SportMediaset).

On Amorim’s comments…

“I like his communication skills. I give Milan a lot of excuses because the coaching staff has changed, a lot of players have changed, several players arrived in the final days of the transfer window. Rabiot and Maignan arrived late after the World Cup.

“They definitely need to improve their game. As Amorim said, they create very little, they need to help Goncalo Ramos a lot more, as he needs a playing structure.

“However, in terms of points in the standings, if they were to win, they’d be two points behind the top three. Then it would definitely be a positive as they have already got two tough away games out of the way, against Juventus and Lazio. In short, I want to give Milan more time.”

On Modric…

“If the Modric criticism has been fair? No, absolutely not. He’s a champion, obviously he’s getting older, but in terms of his reading of the game, his quality, his personality…

“He should always be a starter. It’s clear that you need to surround him with players who can help him, but if he’s like this, that’s fine too.”

Pazzini is right in the sense that a win tonight would actually make a major difference in the standings, while it would also boost the Rossoneri’s confidence ahead of the international break.
