Mendy signs new Cagliari contract: official statement

“Cagliari Calcio are delighted to announce that Paul Mendy has signed a new contract with the Rossoblù, extending his stay at the Club until 30 June 2032,” Cagliari said.

“Born on 13 January 2007 in Rufisque, a coastal city in western Senegal, the young striker joined Cagliari from ASC Bambey in February 2025. Initially featuring for the U18s, with whom he scored three goals in eight appearances, he enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks, progressing ahead of schedule.

“The following season, he was already making his mark with the U20s, scoring his first brace on 21 September in Sassuolo-Cagliari. Between December and January, he found the net in four consecutive matches (against Fiorentina, Frosinone, Parma and Roma), before scoring another brace, this time against Genoa, on 1 February.

“His performances earned him a place in the first-team squad, and he made his senior debut at the age of 19 on 20 March 2026 against Napoli. On 27 April, in his first start, he scored twice in just eight minutes, helping secure a decisive 3-2 victory over Atalanta at the Unipol Domus. Meanwhile, he continued to find the net for the U20s: during the final part of the season, he added another four goals and provided two assists. He was among the team’s key players in the Primavera 1 relegation play-out final in Naples, scoring once and providing two assists in a 3-0 victory that secured the team’s place in Primavera 1.

“This season, he has become one of the mainstays of coach Fabio Pisacane’s attack. He has featured in all nine league matches, scoring in the away victory over Atalanta (2-1) and providing an assist for Daniel Maldini against Juventus (1-1). He also found the net against Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia.

“Physical strength, athleticism, technique and dynamism make Mendy a modern centre-forward, capable both of leading the line on his own and providing a focal point for his teammates, as well as attacking space in behind and driving forward with the ball at his feet. His personal qualities, hard work and dedication, combined with significant room for improvement, make Mendy one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A, a player with great potential to develop. Congratulations, Paul! The future is yours!”
