Entering this season, Samuel Chukwueze was not expected to be a huge player for AC Milan, but he was until his hip injury.

After an alright loan spell with Fulham, most expected Chukwueze to be sold in the summer. The Whites hadn’t taken up their buy option and the Nigerian hadn’t impressed enough to be seen as a guaranteed return.

Nevertheless, Ruben Amorim saw things differently, believing he could play a role. Of course, he’s not the only player who he offered an opportunity to, but he may be the best example of things changing.

The Nigerian was pivotal to Amorim’s system, being the starting wing-back on the right for most of the early season. Unfortunately, though, he suffered a hip injury and hasn’t been seen since.

Chukwueze’s surgery successful

As confirmed in recent minutes by a club statement, Chukwueze’s surgery has now taken place and it was a complete success. A return date has not been given, but reports from the time of the injury suggested he’d be back in 2027.

“AC Milan announces that Samuel Chukwueze has undergone surgery in London to repair a ruptured tendon in the tensor fascia latae muscle in his left hip. The surgery, performed by Prof. Ernest Schilders in the presence of Dr. Stefano Mazzoni, was a complete success.

“The footballer will return to Italy today, where he will begin his rehabilitation process.”
