Nico Gonzalez has started five matches for Juventus this season, scoring twice, and the club has now confirmed a new contract that runs until June 30, 2030. The agreement settles the immediate uncertainty over the Argentina international’s future after his return from Atletico Madrid.

Juventus’ announcement establishes 2030 as the next major contractual horizon for Gonzalez. The club says he has made 45 appearances and scored seven goals in total for the Bianconeri, with his two goals this season arriving across five appearances in all competitions.

Atletico loan ended without a permanent move

Gonzalez spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Atletico. The reported €32 million obligation to buy was not triggered because he did not reach the required number of LaLiga appearances, according to Football Italia’s account of the deal.

Atletico reportedly explored a permanent transfer at a fee significantly below that clause, but the clubs did not reach an agreement. Gonzalez returned to train in Turin, leaving his Juventus future unresolved until the new deal was confirmed. His earlier transfer uncertainty had also drawn attention amid interest from elsewhere, including reported interest from Inter.

The loan followed a difficult first campaign in Turin, which Football Italia says was affected by injuries and changes in the dugout. His return coincided with injuries to several Juventus attackers, including Kenan Yildiz, and Luciano Spalletti has increasingly relied on him. Gonzalez started each of the last three Serie A matches cited in the report.

A longer-term place in the squad

The new contract’s confirmed end date is June 30, 2030. The available reports do not give details of his wages, renewal bonuses or any fee connected with the extension, nor do they verify a previous expiry date; the €32 million figure relates to Atletico’s reported purchase obligation, not the new Juventus agreement.

Juventus present the renewal as a continuation of Gonzalez’s time in Turin and describe his unpredictability, attacking options, experience and character as assets to the squad. The contract confirms the club’s commitment to keeping him, while his recent involvement provides the immediate sporting context. His contribution has also featured in recent attention around the Juventus attack.

Gonzalez’s place is therefore clearer than it was after Atletico’s loan ended: he is under contract with Juventus through 2030 and has returned to regular action under Spalletti. The agreement does not, by itself, guarantee a particular role or starting place, but it removes the near-term question over whether he will remain in Turin.
