According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter and Como are among the Serie A clubs backing Adriano Galliani for FIGC President, while Napoli and Roma continue to support Giovanni Malagò.

Serie A clubs seem split over which FIGC Presidential candidate to back in the election on December 14.

According to Gazzetta, Inter, Atalanta, Como and Sassuolo back ex-Milan and Monza director Galliani, while Napoli, Roma and Bologna support Malagò. All the others are waiting for the upcoming round of talks before making a final decision by November 4.

Serie A candidate for FIGC President: Galliani or Malagò?

According to the report, representatives of 14 Serie A clubs will meet informally today with Inter, Milan, Juventus, Roma, Napoli and Lazio, the only ones not joining.

In June, the vast majority of Serie A clubs backed Malagò, with Lazio the only side not to. However, the situation has quickly changed.

The report claims some clubs are unhappy with Malagò’s decision-making process for key appointments. Given the strong support he had received from Serie A clubs, some thought Malagò would share and discuss his decisions with them, but he didn’t.

From re-hiring Roberto Mancini as head coach to appointing Diana Bianchedi as Delegation Chief, some clubs are unhappy about being left out of the decision-making process, so they are looking for an alternative candidate.

Any candidate with 11 votes from Serie A clubs will become their representative for the FIGC Presidential election on December 14.

The deadline to apply is November 4, so talks and negotiations involving all Serie A clubs are expected to continue in the coming days.

In his latest interview with Repubblica, Malagò didn’t seem concerned about some Serie A clubs withdrawing their support: “I’m calling all the Serie A presidents one by one. I’ve already spoken to 13, and they all guarantee me their support,” he said.

Serie A clubs are among the FIGC components taking part in the election, accounting for 18% of the votes.

The other components are Serie B (6%), Lega Pro (12%), Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (34%), players (20%) and coaches (10%).

A new election was required after it emerged that Malagò was not formally a FIGC member when he was elected on June 22, so he was temporarily appointed FIGC Special Commissioner and called new elections on December 14.
