Moggi: ‘Juventus lack a coach, the team didn’t play at all against Lazio’
Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi believes the Bianconeri lack a coach, insisting the team failed to turn up in Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Lazio.
According to TMW, Moggi said in an interview: “I wouldn’t say the team played badly yesterday. I’d say they didn’t play at all. Talking about their performance is out of place, they didn’t take to the field. If you listen to Bremer’s comments, you understand the team’s situation. The rest should be asked of those in charge, not me.”
Lazio won at the Allianz Stadium through goals from Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Juve were jeered off and are now eight points behind leaders Inter and Lazio. Luciano Spalletti watched from the stands while serving a ban.
Captain Gleison Bremer criticised his teammates afterwards, saying he “can’t carry everyone”. Spalletti replied that the Brazilian was involved in the defeat as much as anyone.
Moggi on Juventus performance: ‘Bremer made a huge mistake’
“The coach is missing, that’s the underlying problem,” Moggi said. “If Bremer says that publicly, that’s fair enough, but in my view he made a huge mistake on the third goal. He escorted the player for 500 metres and let him shoot. Everyone is only looking after their own patch.”
Spalletti admitted after the game that he was no longer sure the squad were following him.
“Those are certainties he shouldn’t have. Nothing is certain right now,” Moggi said. “When you hear comments like these, injuries are no excuse.”
Asked whether Spalletti should be at risk, with supporters calling for Antonio Conte, he replied: “Ask the fans. I can’t judge from the outside.”
Moggi tipped Inter and Roma for the Scudetto, “more Inter than Roma, but both, because they’re the most compact and best-run sides”. He was also blunt on Massimiliano Allegri’s struggling Napoli: “They set out to get results and they’re not getting them. Right now, they no longer know how to win.”
