When AC Milan were looking for a new home, San Donato was selected. Since the San Siro agreement, though, it has sat dormant.

San Donato was meant to be the location of the new Milan home. With renovations at San Siro being refused, the logical option for both clubs was a move away and the Rossoneri purchased land in San Donato and began preparing to build a new stadium there.

Work began on the area to prepare for their eventual move, too. However, the option of buying San Siro arose and the idea of a move disappeared, especially with a San Donato clause being refused.

What to do with San Donato?

Since the rejection of San Donato, there have been several questions about what would eventually sit on the land purchased by the Rossoneri and now, it seems there are some answers.

As MilanNews reports, there are two ‘concrete options’, the first would be a new sports centre constructed by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP). San Donato was recommended as an option for the ATP 250 tournament, but it seems that it will be held in the Veneto region instead.

Though, Angelo Binaghi, the president of the FITP, wants to bring top-level tennis to Milano, so it could still be an option. Alternatively, ‘the construction of a new federal centre and federation governance structures’ could also be possible.

Alternatively, the NBA Europe option remains on the cards. If an AC Milan Basketball Club were formed, a new multipurpose sports hall could be created.
