Milan, Amorim considers a move that will spark debate: Pulisic out against Atalanta, Rabiot as attacking midfielder

Milan, Amorim has tried Musah alongside Modric in central midfield: Pulisic could be the one left out

Three tough games in a week await Milan. They face Atalanta tomorrow before trips to Bounemouth in the Europa League and Udine in the league. Against Atalanta, managed by Maurizio Sarri, Milan will field an entirely different starting XI from the side that won away at Salzburg last Thursday.

Pulisic on the bench

Pulisic struggled against Sassuolo and played just half an hour as a substitute against Salzburg. His goal against Lecce before the break had looked to give him fresh impetus, but he's stalled since. Against Atalanta, he had looked the man to give Ramos the right support. Today, though, Amorim tried a line-up without the American international in the starting XI. It's a significant development at a delicate stage of the season.

Rabiot as an attacking midfielder

Amorim is considering a surprise move: Rabiot pushing forward alongside Cisse in attacking midfield. In the middle, Musah and Modric will form the central pairing, with Moreira wide on the left and Chukwueze on the right to provide balance in attack and defence. That means a return to a back three of Gila, De Winter and Pavlovic, as Peppe Di Stefano pointed out on Sky.
