AC Milan have received a huge boost in their bid to retain Mike Maignan’s services, reports Fabrizio Romano.
The Rossoneri have been desperate for the Frenchman to put pen to paper on a new contract at the San Siro.
Maignan’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he had been free to pen a pre-contract with overseas sides.
Maignan had been linked with January move
The France international was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea last summer, and came close to a Stamford Bridge switch, only for AC Milan head coach Max Allegri to block his exit.
The Blues were expected to return to Maignan this month, while Serie A rivals Juventus had also been monitoring the 30-year-old’s contract situation.
However, the pair have been left disappointed with Maignan set to sign a new deal through to 2031 for AC Milan.
France international key for title chasing AC Milan
Maignan has been a key player for title chasing AC Milan this season, starting all but one of their 21 league matches this season.
Allegri’s side are currently six points behind league leaders and rivals Inter, but do have a game in hand over the Nerazzurri.
The Italian powerhouse travel to the capital tonight as they take on fellow Scudetto contenders Roma.
