AC Milan suffered an early setback on their return to the European stage as they were beaten 2-0 at San Siro by Benfica.

Milan were punished for an early defensive lapse when Dodi Lukébakio fired in after 16 minutes, then early in the second half Jakub Kamiński made it 2-0. Benfica had made nine changes to their line-up, yet emerged with quite a comfortable win.

Not only that, but it was the first time that the Rossoneri had ever lost to the Lisbon club in their history, after six previous meetings which had yielded four wins (two of them European Cup finals) and two draws.

Milan-Benfica: Fan player ratings

It would be fair to say there has been quite a negative reaction to the result, with performance levels seemingly regressing under Ruben Amorim after a good start.

From the fan ratings on our website, the scores for Filippo Terracciano (4.1 out of 10), Strahinja Pavlovic (4.9) and Davide Bartesaghi (4.8) stand out as being among the lowest.

Amongst a sea of low scores, it is Mike Maignan (5.6) and Samuel Chukwueze (5.8) who are the only ones to really get close to a passing grade. That says a lot about the night the Diavolo had.

Among the substitutes, Christian Pulisic and Alexis Saelemaekers both got a 6.2, which once again demonstrates changes making an impact, but not enough to mount a comeback this time.
