Lazio and Inter are joint Serie A leaders, prompting ex-Biancocelesti midfielder Dario Marcolin to compare Gennaro Gattuso’s side to Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City: ‘They taught a lesson.’

Lazio have eight wins and one draw in nine Serie A games this season and sit top of the table on 25 points, level with defending champions Inter.

Marcolin: Lazio ‘can get all the way’ like Manchester City

“Gattuso’s team is like an open book now. Such a start to the season is unprecedented,” former Italian midfielder Marcolin told Gazzetta, via TMW.

“They play good football and have fun. This is becoming their strength. It seems Gattuso has found the right key for the team, and for individual players, too. Lazio play the same way at home and away, which adds certainty. And don’t forget about the advantage of playing once a week. That’s why I say that Leicester City taught a lesson.

“That team taught that you can get all the way in these cases. Obviously, we’re just in Round 9, and there are 29 more games to go, but Lazio have shown that they can finish in the top four.”

Lazio continued their unbeaten run during the Serie A midweek round, beating Sassuolo 6-2 away.

Marcolin, a former Lazio, Napoli and Blackburn midfielder, among others, spent four and a half years with the Biancocelesti, scoring two goals in 110 appearances across all competitions.

The former midfielder went on to name three Lazio players making the difference in the opening stages of the 2026-27 season.

“I really like Taylor, who reminds me of Lazio’s Winter. As a Dutchman and former Ajax player, he always plays with the right tempo,” he said.

“Zaccagni seems stronger and more confident now. Perhaps he feels more secure around those close to him. And I’d like to highlight Frattesi’s growth. He’s been pushed by a spirit of revenge too. For the opponents, he’s a constant threat, not just because of his goals.”

Lazio’s next game is at home against Cagliari on Sunday, November 1, and they’ll visit Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli on Sunday, November 8, in the last Serie A match before the November international break
