Lazio Winger Dreams of Roma Derby Goal, Hails ‘Aggressive’ Gattuso

Gustav Isaksen aspires to achieve many objectives at Lazio, but scoring a goal in the Derby against Roma is at the top of his wishlist.

Gustav Isaksen’s Lazio Path

The Dane joined the Biancocelesti from Midtjylland in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth €14 million. He became a regular starter a year later following Felipe Anderson’s departure. The 25-year-old has had his fair share of highs and lows in his first three years in Rome, and he’s been vying with Matteo Cancellieri for a starting role since last season.

For the second summer in a row, Isaksen skipped the club’s pre-season camp, this time due to groin surgery. The winger has recently returned to action, but showed signs of rustiness. However, he seemed to have regained his sharpness while representing Denmark during the long international break.

Isaksen Hellbent to Score for Lazio Against Roma

Isaksen will be keen to build on this international form when the Serie A campaign resumes this weekend, but above all, he’s dreaming of scoring a goal against Lazio’s arch rivals Roma in the Derby della Capitale. The winger revealed as much in his interview with Tuttosport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

I’d do anything for a goal in the derby. It would be a dream to score at the Olimpico against Roma.

Isaksen Heaps Praise on Gennaro Gattuso

The Danish player then opened up on the club’s splendid start to the Serie A campaign, as Lazio find themselves level with Inter Milan and Roma at the top of the table. He gives credit to Gennaro Gattuso for instilling a more aggressive mentality within the team.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to be in first place, but we have a very strong team. Gattuso is incredible, he’s doing a great job: he’s changed so many things, we’re very aggressive. I can’t wait to get back to playing for Lazio, we’ll see how far we can go.

Isaksen on Lazio’s Season Objectives

Isaksen avoided making any promises regarding the end of the season, insisting the Aquile should take it one step at a time.

The fans always have to dream, but it’s too early to say whether we’re worthy of the Scudetto or not, we have to take it one game at a time. Now there’s Monza, the next game is the one we have to focus on. We need the three points to continue our run and what we’re doing.
