Kovacevic: “Vlahovic will regret leaving Juventus”
The former Serbian striker, who played for Juventus from 1999 to 2001, speaks
Darko Kovacevic made 71 appearances and scored 26 goals for Juventus from 1999 to 2000. He spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the club's strikers, past and present.
On Vlahovic
"Dusan likes black and white: Partizan, Juve and now Besiktas. Only Fiorentina had a shirt in different colours. Vlahovic is attached to Juve; perhaps he too will regret leaving. Spalletti is certainly missing a genuine No 9 like Dusan badly. He should have been kept in Turin."
On Kolo Muani and Woltemade
"Kolo Muani? He’s an excellent forward, but he isn’t a true number nine or an out-and-out goalscorer. He’ll score goals, but a team like Juventus need a genuine centre-forward. Spalletti could do with a striker like me, but if I were him, I’d put my faith in Woltemade. The German is 198 centimetres tall, technically skilled and mobile: I’ve always liked him. All he needs to be Juventus’ number nine is confidence. Maybe he’ll score against Celta as I did in 2000 and his season will turn around: I have faith in him. Playing with two strikers could also be an option now that Yildiz is injured. Who can make the difference tonight? I’m backing Woltemade, McKennie, Alajbegovic and Conceicao. I have a soft spot for Sergio’s son’s dribbling: his dad was an incredible winner as a player."
