One of the most striking images from AC Milan’s derby win over Inter on Saturday was Ricardo Kaka’s tears as he was welcomed on the field.

Saturday night was the night of Milan’s resounding derby victory – their fourth in a row against Inter – but it was also the night of Kakà’s return to San Siro. He was presented with a trophy before kick-off to mark his induction into the Rossoneri Hall of Fame.

It was a moment filled with emotion for all the fans present who chanted his name, but above all it was a moving moment for Kakà himself, who couldn’t hold back the tears as a montage video played on the screen.

Now, the Brazilian has spoken for the first time since that memorable evening as the NSS Sports Instagram page published a short interview with him.

“Milan is a second home to me: that’s the word that comes to mind when I think of this city. I’ve been truly fortunate to have so many great champions at my side, at AC Milan, in the national team, in Madrid: I’ve played with some truly brilliant players.

“The most elegant? Zidane, even though I didn’t play with him, but against him. The best moments associated with San Siro are definitely the victories, the Champions League celebrations in 2007, so many matches like the one against Manchester United or the one against Roma when we won the Scudetto.

“But there were also many moments, every time I entered San Siro and heard the chant ‘Siam venuti fin qua, siam venuti fin qua…’, I got goosebumps.”
