Juventus and Roma Intrigued by Sporting CP Youngster
Serie A teams didn’t like Issa Doumbia enough to bid for him when he was at Venezia, but he quickly asserted himself at Sporting CP too, and Juventus and Roma could try to bring him back to Italy eventually, A Bola reports.
The youngster also fared well in his first few Italy appearances during the recent international break. The Portuguese side splurged to acquire him last summer, paying €20M after he registered 8 goals and 6 assists in 37 second-division games in 2025/2026.
Juventus and Roma have been monitoring Doumbia in recent fixtures, especially in the UEFA Champions League. He bagged his first goal of the season against Lens. He has started in every bout so far.
The Bianconeri are particularly eager to bring in more Italian players, but they’ll have to pay a hefty price tag in this case. He’s under contract until 2031, with an €80M release clause. Sporting CP could eventually sit at the table only for offers north of €50M.
A few Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs on the midfielder’s development, especially Newcastle United and Brentford. He made a rare jump from Serie C to A in 2024, as Venezia had signed him from Albinoleffe. He was a rotational piece at the time, collecting 24 appearances.
Our Take on Juventus, Roma, and Doumbia
Financial constraints and a lack of courage too often keep Italian teams from rolling the dice on promising youngsters who haven’t fully blossomed yet. Both rumored suitors will likely need at least one high-quality midfielder in the near future, but it’s extremely difficult to buy players from Sporting CP, especially those who joined recently.
