Inter's comeback brings a historic record back into the spotlight
The Nerazzurri refuse to give up
Inter Milan staged a dramatic late comeback to beat Fiorentina 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Marcus Thuram levelled in the 90th minute before Piotr Zielinski sealed it from the penalty spot in the 98th, in the eighth round of the Italian league.
The win saw Inter repeat a rare feat in their league history. According to Opta, this was the third time they have turned a one-goal deficit into victory by scoring twice from the 90th minute onwards.
Two previous comebacks of the kind stand out. The black and blue side did it against Cesena on 30 April 2011, courtesy of a Giampaolo Pazzini brace, and against Sampdoria on 9 January 2005, through goals from Christian Vieri and Álvaro Recoba.
Victory keeps Inter top of the table on 22 points, ahead of Lazio on goal difference. Fiorentina, by contrast, remain stuck on 4 points in 18th place.
