Inter have bought themselves a few more months to negotiate with Federico Dimarco. They activated their option to prolong his contract until 2028, postponing the expiration date by a year.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, despite the recent rumors about the star’s lofty requests, both sides want to finalize the extension. He changed his agents fairly recently, appointing Arturo Canales and Alessandro Renzi. The real negotiation has yet to start, but the parties have scheduled a meeting shortly.

Dimarco won’t leave Inter, as the economic details will eventually be sorted out. In the meantime, he’ll keep earning €5.2M annually plus add-ons. The chatter about other sides being keen, in particular Barcelona, doesn’t have much substance.

The Nerazzurri president, Giuseppe Marotta, tackled the topic to Sky before the Feyenoord game.

“He’s a true fan. We concurred on picking up the option with him, even though it was technically unilateral. We agree that we’ll re-up his deal during the season. He wants to stay, and we’re on the same page and are happy with him. The sense of belonging has to prevail over other values.”

Our Take on Inter and Dimarco

There’s something odd going on between his slow start and his leaked demands. Perhaps his new representatives started talks a little too aggressively in a way that irked the counterparty. The Nerazzurri wouldn’t have needed to activate their clause if they thought that the accord was imminent. However, it’s something that can be smoothed over time and with some bargaining, as the numbers are high but not excessive. Instead, it’s a little more worrying that he’s being severely outplayed by Carlos Augusto.
