Roma thrashed their hosts Udinese 5-2 on Saturday evening, in the tenth round of the Italian league season.

The win lifted Roma to 24 points and third place in Serie A, just one point behind the two leaders, Inter Milan and Lazio. Udinese stayed frozen on 5 points, second from bottom.

The Calciomercato website reviewed the key details of the match, in which Roma had things extremely easy against a Udinese side caught in one of their worst spells of the season.

Bryan Cristante opened the scoring with a header in the tenth minute, capitalising on a cross from Wesley. Roma then wasted two clear-cut chances, with shots from Matias Soule and Donyell Malen both striking the post.

The visitors did not wait long to extend their lead. Rodrigo Mora made it two in the 32nd minute, latching onto a through ball from Cristante inside the penalty area.

Just two minutes later, Malen added the third, receiving a pass from Soule, controlling the ball and firing it into the net with his left foot.

Evan Ndicka completed Roma's quartet in the 38th minute, heading home a Soule corner amid jeers from the Bluenergy Stadium crowd aimed at the Udinese players.

Roma's performance dropped off in the second half as they grew comfortable with their big lead. Gasperini made several changes to rest some of his players, and that handed Udinese the chance to regain the initiative and try to claw their way back.

In the 50th minute, Nicolo Zaniolo struck against his former club. Lennon Miller fired a shot from outside the box that deflected off a defender and forced goalkeeper Jullini to parry, with the ball dropping to Zaniolo, who followed it into the net.

Matteo Palma added Udinese's second in the 78th minute, pouncing on a ball cleared by Hassane Kamara and striking it on the volley, magnificently, into the net. Unai Gomes almost narrowed the gap further in the 84th minute with a powerful shot that flashed just beside the right post, forcing Jullini to dive after it.

But Udinese's uprising fizzled out. Their attacking attempts dried up, and then Roma delivered the final blow. In the second minute of stoppage time, Daniele Ghilardi made it five, finishing off a pass from Castro after bursting forward from the back to unleash a powerful shot into the net.
