AC Milan chairman, Gerry Cardinale, spoke outside the training ground this afternoon, as his team prepares for their biggest game in October.

Tomorrow’s derby has a lot at stake. For Milan, a win could re-enter them into the title discussion, if not just cement their hopes of a top four finish. A loss, though, would put them 10 points behind the Nerazzurri.

It’s going to be a big ask with a squad ravaged by injuries, but the Rossoneri have been in similar positions before. In other words, they’ve not forfeited the game before a ball has even been kicked at San Siro.

With the new stadium being shown on Thursday, too, it’s also the beginning of the end for these games at their current home.

Cardinale confident before the derby

Speaking outside Milanello to MilanNews, Cardinale touched on the atmosphere ahead of tomorrow’s Derby della Madonnina and his confidence for the game.

What’s the atmosphere like inside?

“Serious. Very serious. I think everyone’s focused.”

Derby, an important match?

“Every derby is important, every match is important, so, you know, to do things well you have to be serious. It’s a match. These guys are focused, and Ruben is doing his job, the guys are doing theirs. Today was a great training session.”

Are you confident?

“Yes, I’m always confident because we’re prepared and doing our job. Injuries always come unexpectedly and you have to deal with them, but that’s football. But tomorrow we’ll go onto the pitch very determined and very focused. And we’ll see what happens.

“We’ll go onto the pitch to win, there’s no doubt about that.”

Have you spoken to Amorim?

“Of course. Several times a day. But you’ve spoken to him too, right? I was there at the press conference. What do you think? It was a good press conference. Ruben is very clear in his words, very authentic, very transparent. This is the new Milan.”

It’s fair to say the American has worn his heart on his sleeve with his words; hopefully, his confidence is repaid by the team.
