Omari Hutchinson has questioned the desire of some of the players in the AC Milan squad who are not playing regularly.

Milan sunk to perhaps their lowest point of Ruben Amorim’s tenure so far as they were beaten 2-0 by Ferencvaros. The away side were good value for the win, and it complicates the mission to get into the knockout stages of the Europa League given the current position outside the top 24.

Amorim did not hold back after the game, accusing his team of lacking heart and desire. It is a third defeat in four European games for the Rossoneri, which is far off the expectations of one of the supposed pre-tournament favourites.

Hutchinson was interviewed by CBS Sports Golazo at the end of last night’s game and he offered his thoughts on what was another rough night, with MilanNews relaying his words.

What went wrong?

“I think we had a very slow start. I think we were mentally prepared: they showed us all the tactics, what we had to do and how to start.

“I think we’ve been having a lot of slow starts lately, and even though we came out with a slightly more positive attitude in the second half, today it just wasn’t enough.

“I don’t think we showed that hunger to get to the ball, to make an impact in front of goal. So yeah, it was all very, very slow.”

And what needs to be done in the next matches to improve your performance and your style of play?

“I just think we need to play like we did against Inter. You could feel the energy in the locker room; you could tell we wanted to win. I think we didn’t show much humility today.

“We didn’t want to… well, a lot of players who aren’t playing didn’t show that hunger to want a starting spot, and I think that wasn’t enough. I think we’ll have to start strong on Sunday and be really good with the ball.”

Will you be able to find the strength to climb the rankings?

“Yes, yes, I think the game isn’t over until we’re out, so we just have to keep focusing. Yes, we just have to improve. We have a good group, the staff always helps us, shows us what we have to do.

“And now I think it’s up to us. I think we let everyone down today and we have another game on Sunday, we have to focus on that and come out strong.”
