GdS: ‘The mini Mourinho’ – Amorim’s assistant Fernandes having huge impact at Milan
Most of the best coaches in the world rely on those and it’s no different at AC Milan, with Ruben Amorim having a select group around him.
With Amorim, his coaching staff have always been a talking point. A close-knit bunch, the Portuguese brought them to Manchester and then Milano. Now, after the Derby della Madonnina, the focus is on one part of the team.
The Mourinho to Amorim’s Robson
As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, a lot of credit for this week has been given to Carlos Fernandes, Amorim’s right-hand man. The two met during Amorim’s playing days at Benfica, where the latter was working with the youth team.
From there, they discussed ideas and created a bond which took them to Casa Pia, then to Braga, Lisbon, Manchester and now Milano.
Nicknamed the ‘mini Mourinho’, Fernandes is not just a set-piece specialist – as his role may suggest – instead, he does much more. Indeed, he participates in analysis, training planning and much more. Amorim has even stated before that he’ll be a better coach than him, the Mourinho to his Bobby Robson.
For now, though, the pair work together and they are unbelievably close, as seen with the celebrations in the derby.
