GdS: Set-pieces an early Achilles’ heel for Milan to fix under Amorim – the numbers

A worrying trend has emerged during the first few games of the 2026-27 season for AC Milan regarding set-pieces.
As today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) points out, there seems to be a problem with goals conceded from dead-ball situations for Milan. Just six games into the new season, this appears to be a major defensive weakness for the Rossoneri.
In the first match against Torino, Che Adams scored from a Gineitis free kick, although admittedly it was a stunning strike. In the match against Juventus, two points slipped away in the last second due to Federico Gatti’s goal from a Teun Koopmeiners free kick.
Yesterday, Sassuolo got themselves back level five minutes after Adrien Rabiot with Odenthal’s improvised finish from a corner. This situation has already been seen in the pre-season friendlies against Chelsea and Manchester United too, so it has become a concern.
Last night’s goal certainly annoyed Rabiot, as he revealed in his post-match comments. A corner was whipped low but not very hard by Lauriente from the left side and was dummied by Josh Doig at the near post. It went through a sea of bodies before being turned in somehow, with every Milan man flat-footed.
