Frosinone coach Alvini: ‘I believe football is entertainment, but focus is on safety first’
Massimiliano Alvini is relishing his record-breaking Frosinone after a 5-1 hammering of Lecce. ‘I believe that football is entertainment’ and his focus remains on Serie A safety.
This team is making history, as with 17 points in nine rounds, it is the best ever start to the season for a team promoted from Serie B, on a par with Juventus on their return from Calciopoli in 2007/08.
They are in sixth place in the Serie A table, three points clear of Napoli and Juventus, but only one behind Milan in fifth.
Alvini hails entertaining Frosinone
“I believe that football is entertainment, it is a spectacle, both good and bad,” Frosinone coach Alvini told DAZN Italia.
“You go to the stadium to be entertained, so the coach tries to find the best way to achieve the result. Football is the most beautiful sport in the world, if it’s fun too, then it’s even better.”
The victory this evening never seemed in doubt against an injury-ravaged Lecce, but the 5-1 result was no fluke.
Frosinone are one of the most prolific teams in Serie A with 22 goals in nine games, behind only Roma on 23 and Inter with 25.
That is a record all their own, as no other newly-promoted side had scored this many goals after nine Serie A rounds.
They scored 13 goals in the last three games alone, beating Sassuolo 4-2 and Lecce 5-1, around a 4-4 draw with Atalanta.
“Lecce came here with different tactics to usual, so we could’ve struggled to make the most of our traditional moves,” added Alvini.
Some have compared Giorgi Kvernadze to Paris Saint-Germain and former Napoli hero Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, especially as they are both Georgia internationals.
“He is a different player to Kvaratskhelia. Kvara is more creative and always tries to dribble, whereas Kvernadze is more physical and runs non-stop,” explained the Frosinone coach.
“I want to give the credit to the lads today. We really played as a team today, individualism isn’t suited to this kind of football.”
Nonetheless, Alvini is not aiming too high after this extraordinary start to the season.
“The objective is Serie A safety, we have 17 points and that won’t be enough, so let’s not look at the table right now, it tells lies.”
