Often there is a general consensus when it comes to the starting XI that AC Milan will field before any given game, but not this time.

Milan badly needed a win against RB Salzburg on Thursday and it came in convincing fashion to get the Europa League campaign up and running in round two. Now, they return to home comforts to take on an Atalanta side that have had a mixed start to the campaign.

Disagreements in the media

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has Milan lining up in a 4-3-3 for the first time this season. Mike Maignan will be the man in goal with Mario Gila, Koni De Winter, Strahinja Pavlovic and Diego Moreira the defence ahead of him.

Yunus Musah, Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot are down as the midfield trio, with Samuel Chukwueze, Goncalo Ramos and Thursday’s hat-trick hero Alphadjo Cisse being the trident in attack.

Meanwhile, Sky have something very different. They have a 3-4-2-1 formation with Gila, De Winter and Pavlovic as the three-man defence, then Chukwueze and Pervis Estupinan as the wing-back duo.

They are expected to flank a midfield pairing of Modric and Rabiot, with Christian Pulisic and Moreira the attacking midfielders behind Ramos. Who will be correct? We’ll have to wait until around 16:30 CEST to find out.
