Fofana sheds light on disheartening Milan exit: “I’ll go where they want me”
Youssouf Fofana believes AC Milan could have handled things differently in the summer, but he does not hold any grudges.
Fofana was one of the players that the new head coach Ruben Amorim did not see as a part of his plans, to the extent that he was told to train alone along with Fikayo Tomori, Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez.
After being linked with a move to Turkish clubs and then having a return to Ligue 1 with Lyon fall through on deadline day, it looked like Fofana would stay put. However, Sevilla got a deal over the line right at the last minute.
Things are going so well there that the head coach Luis Garcia Plaza described Fofana’s arrival as a ‘gift that fell from the sky’. It is a free loan, with the LaLiga side paying just a portion of his salary and the Rossoneri covering most of it.
Fofana reveals all on exit
In an interview with El Pais (via Calciomercato.com), the French midfielder revealed that he bears no grudge over the summer decision, even though he emphasised that things could have been handled differently too.
“It all happened so quickly. I didn’t have time to think, but there was one important thing: Sevilla really wanted me. I didn’t want to keep waiting at Milan because I knew I wouldn’t play. I’ll go where they want me and where they have faith in me,” he said.
“There were other ways to handle the situation [leaving Milan], but they chose theirs and there’s no hard feelings. Today we’re all happy: I’m at Sevilla and they have the team they wanted.”
In recent days, there have been reports from multiple sources claiming that Manchester United are watching the former Monaco man ahead of a potential winter swoop.
