Double Blow for Gattuso as Lazio Duo Skip Parma & Sassuolo Games
Lazio will be without Nicolo Rovella and Adam Marusic for their next two games against Parma and Sassuolo.
The Background
The Montenegrin full-back has been unavailable since picking up a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season against Bologna. The following week, the Italian midfielder hurt his calf in the victory over his original club, Genoa. The two players have been tipped to return to action for several weeks, but they have yet to receive the green light.
Lazio Won’t Rush Rovella & Marusic Back Into Action
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso revealed he’d rather be safe than sorry when it comes to reintroducing injured players back into the fold. This approach was confirmed by the club’s doctor, Pietro Monachino, who provided the latest medical updates through Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
Both Rovella and Marusic are continuing their work as previously planned. We have discussed things with the coaching staff, and we have a schedule to follow. Both are doing well, and we are very pleased with their progress.
They are on the pitch today, working separately from the group. Our prognosis is becoming increasingly clear. We have deliberately allowed for appropriate recovery times, and we are following a measured and controlled progression.
Both sustained different injuries, but they were delicate cases in terms of recovery time. Our cautious approach stems from having a coaching staff that supports us and shares our decisions. It is a pleasure to work in this environment, where the player is the main focus and we are all committed to the same recovery process.
When Will Marusic & Rovella Return
While Monachino didn’t provide an exact timetable for the two players’ returns, Il Messaggero believes they will miss Saturday’s home fixture against Parma, as well as Tuesday’s away game against Sassuolo. Rovella and Marusic will then try to recover for the following weekend’s clash against Napoli.
Albert Gudmundsson & Matteo Cancellieri Updates
Lazio’s doctor also revealed that Albert Gudmundsson’s shoulder fracture is healing well, but Il Messaggero expects him to remain out at least until the start of December. The good news for Gattuso this week is that Matteo Cancellieri has fully recovered from his knee injury and will thus be available against his former club, Parma.
