Diogo Dalot believes Manchester United's dramatic Champions League comeback against Roma can change their season.

United trailed by two goals at Old Trafford on Tuesday before winning a memorable European tie 3-2.

Bruno Fernandes' retaken penalty started the recovery, with a last-gasp Matheus Cunha brace and an even later red card completing a spectacular fightback by Michael Carrick's side.

Roma had raced into a deserved two-goal lead, and a United side in the midst of a nine-match winless run had looked set to see that sequence reach double figures.

That barren spell includes poor Premier League performances, and the Red Devils' worst start to a league campaign since 1986 which has left them 17th, just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Reflecting on Tuesday’s win, Dalot said: "I think a really good second half. I think we came with the right attitude.

"We did pretty much everything that we needed to do to turn the game on and it's moments like this, it's nights like this that can change momentum, and hopefully we can change ours. Not just the manager, everyone is under pressure.

"When you don't win games for this football club, every moment, every person, everyone involved gets under pressure, and we felt it obviously, because we're not near good enough of what we should have done.

“And, like I said, nights like this can change momentum, can change seasons, and I think this win is going to give us confidence for the next games.”

Attention now turns to Aston Villa's visit to Old Trafford, where United will attempt to follow up the Roma turnaround by winning their second Premier League match of the season.

A victory on Sunday would be huge for all connected to the club ahead of the international break, while further disappointment would darken the mood and raise major questions over Carrick's future.

“These moments are really tough, I’m not going to lie,” Dalot said.

"Unfortunately, I've had a few moments like this in the past, and the only way for us to get out is by winning football games. I think that's the only way you can get confidence.

"And nights like this, like I've said, give you an extra confidence that make you believe that you can create these moments, not just for us, but for the fans.

“And it’s important from everyone around the club feeling that we care, that we want to turn this around, and I think we’ve showed, especially in the second 45 minutes, that we really want to turn this around.”

Dalot's view is that the head start United gave Roma left Carrick's side with “nothing more to lose”, and Villa cannot be handed the same early advantage.

“That’s the unfortunate situation that we are in, so we just had to really go at it,” he said of the second half.

“I think that the biggest thing that we need to get out of this game today is when we play like this, when you have the right attitude, when the fans really believe that we are there, we can be a very strong team.”
