CorSport: Ramos left ‘alone’ – the reasons for his struggles at Milan so far

When AC Milan spent big on Goncalo Ramos, there was an instant expectation that goals would come. However, it hasn’t been the case yet.

Signing a striker should be a guarantee of goals, especially for €75 million. Yet, Ramos hasn’t been so far. He’s scored once in five games and hasn’t had a shot on target in his last three appearances. It’s clear that he’s struggling to find the back of the net.

Even his first goal wasn’t entirely convincing. It came after several attempts and whilst it was a good finish, it’s the only spark we’ve seen. Due to the time since that last goal, the spark has died and he needs another to be set alight.

Ramos isolated at Milan

This morning, Corriere dello Sport writes that the Portuguese striker is ‘alone’. He’s not given help by the squad and that’s why he struggled. It’s been a lonely shirt in recent years, and the No.9 has often been isolated.

He’s had 195 touches of the ball, 24 of which have come in the box and 17 of them have been shots. Only four have been on target, though.

Looking at others in Serie A, he’s more involved, having more touches than Kolo Muani, Malen, Esposito and Douvikas, just to name a few. Yet, he’s had less shots than all of them, barring Juventus’ Frenchman.

The argument is that Amorim is not helping him so far, with his team not creating enough quality chances for the Portuguese to really be effective. Nor has he had a chance to work with a set duo alongside him.

With a more solidified pair of attacking midfielders, he should be more effective. Against Lecce, he needs to show something, but he also needs support. He cannot be lonely all season; it’s a waste of money if he’s isolated.
