CorSport: Nine games in 28 days – Milan’s value and new system to be tested
Over the next 28 days, AC Milan will be brutally tested by the calendar and Ruben Amorim must find a way to navigate it.
The first part of the season saw Milan go unbeaten in Serie A, picking up 11 points from 15 available. Of course, the loss to Benfica is a massive blot on that record. However, it’s not ruined their Europa League campaign, far from it.
Over the next month, though, we could see the Serie A and Europa League campaigns made or broken.
A rough month
As Corriere dello Sport writes, the Rossoneri will play nine games in 28 days, a truly brutal schedule. The win against Lecce brought a good feeling which continued into the break, but the going will now get tough.
On average, they’ll play every three days, so there are no breaks and it starts with Sassuolo who have picked up points in seven of the last 10 meetings. Furthermore, the Rossoneri have not won at the Mapei since that game in 2022.
Then there are European games against Salzburg, Bournemouth and Ferencváros, as well as Atalanta, Udinese, Genoa and Bologna. If that wasn’t enough, there is also the Halloween derby.
System change
Ruben Amorim will have to rotate heavily and he’s announced his intention to do so already. It will be a necessity, but points cannot be dropped for the sake of keeping everyone fit. In other words, he faces another challenge there.
Injuries won’t help, but the news about Pervis Estupinan’s situation brings some positivity. The 4-4-2 will likely be seen again and it could unleash the best of the Diavolo moving forward. Amorim has already stated that his Milan team have a long way to go, they could make up some of that distance this month.
