CorSport: Amorim changes again – reversion to 3-4-2-1 expected for Atalanta clash
Despite the 4-0 win on Thursday night, Ruben Amorim was not completely convinced by AC Milan’s performance.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) report this morning, Amorim made his rather surprising thoughts clear after the match in Austria, when he highlighted errors in the build-up and a few lapses in concentration.
Clearly, a more thoughtful analysis confirmed those feelings because, against Atalanta, Milan are ready to make further changes, both in terms of players and even in their system.
Return of the three-man defence
From the 4-2-3-1 seen in Salzburg, Milan should return to a 3-4-2-1, although with Amorim the numbers only tell part of the story. Mario Gila should return in front of Maignan, alongside Koni De Winter and Strahinja Pavlovic.
Luka Modric and Yunus Musah will be in the midfield double pivot, a pairing designed to bring quality and dynamism to the midfield. Further forward, Adrien Rabiot could play as an atypical attacking midfielder, something glimpsed earlier in the campaign.
He would operate alongside the man of the moment, Alphadjo Cisse, who scored a hat-trick on Thursday. Samuel Chukwueze and Diego Moreira return on the wings, while Gonçalo Ramos will lead the attack.
It will not be a straightforward game for the Diavolo against La Dea. In the last 11 years, Milan have beaten Atalanta at San Siro only twice – in 2022 and 2023 – while they have failed to win in their last six home meetings.
Amorim will therefore try to break a negative tradition and write a small page in Milan’s history: he could become the third Rossoneri manager to remain undefeated in his first seven Serie A games.
