It is an issue that can no longer be skirted around: Goncalo Ramos is in a real slump to begin his AC Milan career.

As Calciomercato.com recall, it was a familiar story for Ramos last night, who had zero shots against Bologna. This time, not even his performance saved him as the Portuguese was among the worst players on the pitch.

Ramos in crisis?

Against Udinese, Ramos had already wasted a lot of energy complaining to the referee about the treatment he received from Udinese defenders. Last night, something similar happened, but the protest was more heated, almost as if trying to vent his growing frustration.

Ramos has only scored two league goals, one of which was a penalty. He has more anonymous performances than open play goals, which – for a striker that commanded a club-record fee of over €70m – is simply not good enough.

Ramos often came up empty in his first few outings, but he contributed in other ways with assists or his movement. One issue remains his positioning on the pitch: Amorim must get him into the penalty area, as a proper centre-forward.

Against Bologna, there’s one statistic that’s even more worrying: Ramos never had a shot on goal. Against Udinese, in the previous round, he had only one. These are stats of a central defender, not for one who’s the team’s sole attacking force.

He also showed weaknesses in his ball handling: while his overall passing accuracy (76%) was ok, he also lost the ball quite a bit (11 lost possessions and 5 failed touches) with a negative overall ball progression (-14 meters).

He was seen only fighting: he won half of his ground duels (3 out of 6) and aerial duels (3 out of 6). However, much, much more is expected of him, otherwise the scrutiny will really start to dial up.
