Goncalo Ramos’ season has been defined by his lack of goals for AC Milan so far. However, he’s not the only one to blame.

It’s been a difficult start to life for Ramos. He’s been the second option with Portugal and PSG in recent years, but he’s been thrust into the first spot for both now. In the international break, it paid off, with him scoring three goals and grabbing an assist.

However, the same wasn’t seen in Reggio Emilia at the weekend. Indeed, he failed to contribute and again looked a little lacklustre, but it’s not completely his fault.

Ramos lacking support

As Calciomercato.com recalls, he only really had two chances of note, and both came inside the same minute. Firstly, a left-footed shot saved by Muric and then a close-range header, which Muric was also equal to.

He must raise his performance levels, yes. But he needs to be given more service.

Ultimately, he’s only able to be as helpful as his team is; he moved a lot, but no one found him – as shown by his 34 touches of the ball. Barring Christian Pulisic, the team is lacking in support options for several reasons.

For this season, Ruben Amorim must find solutions to help Ramos, but also to help those giving him the help. Goals are needed – they’ll be what he’s judged on – but he’s also being unfairly criticised so far.
