CM: Milan goalless in first halves – Cardinale’s ‘requests’ and Amorim’s ‘solutions’

AC Milan have one more game before the international break and it’s perhaps their most important fixture of the season so far.

Who’d have thought a home game against Lecce would be pivotal already? However, Ruben Amorim is already facing questions from the media and the press. A pretty standard post-game meeting with Gerry Cardinale seemed like it could be more.

Now, it’s not doomsday, far from that. Denying that it holds a lot of importance, though, would be wrong.

Amorim’s mission and Cardinale’s demand

As written by Calciomercato.com this morning, Amorim needs to settle the team and bring some confidence into the international break and a big help to do that would come with some first-half goals.

So far this season, the Rossoneri have not found the net in the first 45 and Gerry Cardinale has been clear that this needs solving.

It is already clear that the starting XI needs to be revised and reports this morning suggest that this will be done. However, that doesn’t mean that results will automatically become convincing, which is what Cardinale seeks.

A win this weekend is a must and Amorim wants to deliver the football that was promised – a proactive, offensive, and dominant team. Time isn’t running out and everyone is aware that this will be a long-term project.

Cardinale will back the coach, but there will be limitations. Winning (convincingly) this weekend will take us back to square one; anything but will take the Rossoneri into a potentially rocky few weeks.
