Manchester United looked considerably better during the opening stages against Chelsea but once again struggled to turn their attacking opportunities into goals.
Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo all had chances to put the visitors ahead, but their inability to capitalise proved costly.

Cole Palmer subsequently converted the resulting spot-kick to secure all three points for the hosts.
United’s latest setback has increased scrutiny of Carrick’s position, particularly after consecutive defeats against Como and Bournemouth earlier in the month. The club hierarchy had previously decided to give him another opportunity, but the latest result has done little to ease concerns.
Carrick expects to remain in charge against Roma
Despite the disappointing result, Carrick has indicated that he expects to remain in charge for Manchester United’s Champions League meeting with Roma on Tuesday.

However, United’s ongoing struggles have become increasingly difficult to ignore. They have now gone nine consecutive matches without a victory, leaving them dangerously close to the Premier League relegation zone.

Although the club have not confirmed any decision regarding his position, Carrick desperately needs a positive result to restore confidence and keep his job.
