Carrick confident he will be Manchester United manager against Roma on Nov 3
Manchester United face Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday and Michael Carrick is confident he will still be the manager even after another defeat to Marco Palestra’s Chelsea.
That game kicks off at Old Trafford on Tuesday at 20.00 GMT (21.00 CET).
It is a head-to-head for position in the table, as Roma have four points after three games, whereas Manchester United are stuck on three after their 4-1 loss to another Serie A side in Como.
The Giallorossi are undoubtedly in better form going into this clash, because Manchester United suffered another humiliating 2-0 defeat today in the Premier League away to Chelsea.
They saw Lisandro Martinez sent off for two bookable offences, including a shove to give away a penalty for 2-0 against Italy international Palestra’s side.
Carrick hoping to face Roma
There had already been big question marks over the future of Carrick, but the situation is now so dire that he was asked outright by TNT Sports if he thinks he’ll be on the bench when Roma visit on Tuesday.
“Yes,” was his firm reply.
Manchester United are now without a victory in nine competitive matches, since the 4-0 Champions League success against newcomers Sabah FK.
There were just three 1-1 draws with Fulham, Tottenham and Leeds United, with defeats to Manchester City, Brighton, Atletico Madrid, Como, Bournemouth and Chelsea.
“There is no hiding from the fact that we haven’t won enough games. The boys were in a good place in the first half,” insisted Carrick.
“There is a lot of emotion, we’re a great football club, and we want to win football matches. The supporters come, make a lot of effort, pay a lot of money to watch us play. You can see from today the boys had the game in the right place and things have gone against us.
“Things have gone against us, and gone against us in a big way. Unravelled quickly. A lot of emotion right now,” insisted Carrick.
“We have got to move forward and take the things that worked for us today. A lot of the good things, especially in the first half and use that moving forward.”
The fans have inevitably lost patience now with Carrick, and there are strong reports he will be sacked, with Italy’s Antonio Conte one of the potential candidates to take over.
