Michael Carrick was displeased with the ending of Matheus Cunha’s otherwise scintillating shift against AS Roma on Tuesday night.

Having initially been booked for removing his shirt during his chaotic goal celebrations for the match-winner, the Manchester United star proceeded to receive a second yellow for an unnecessary challenge at the start of injury time.

Cunha was reluctant to depart down the tunnel and miss the end of the emphatic five-goal thriller, so lingered around the sidelines before being ushered away from the pitch in order to prevent any further disciplinary action.

As a result, the Brazilian will miss United’s next Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon on November 25.

How Cunha fared vs Roma

Meanwhile, Cunha will now be looking to build on his outstanding display in United’s coming fixtures, starting with Sunday’s contest at home to Aston Villa.

Against the Serie A outfit, he earned a rating of 8.7, having had the most touches in the opposition’s box (nine) of any player.

The 27-year-old recorded 25 accurate passes, one big chance and won the penalty to kick-start the comeback, which was converted by Bruno Fernandes, who was named the Player of the Match.

Cunha also registered four successful dribbles, five passes into the final third and two line-breaking passes, as well as three tackles and seven recoveries.
