AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has reiterated his backing of head coach Ruben Amorim, and spoke about a desire to invest more in the squad.

Milan are looking for a bounce-back after the midweek defeat against Bologna, a game that they led 2-1 at half-time but eventually lost 4-2 after a second-half collapse that stunned the San Siro crowd, who eventually jeered the team off.

The result is that Ruben Amorim chose to make six changes from the team that lost to the Rossoblu three nights ago, which signified a desire to change things up after a performance that was also conditions by an injury crisis.

Cardinale spoke to Sky not long before kick-off at San Siro to give his thoughts ahead of a crucial game in the scheme of the season, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

What are your feelings?

“It’s incredible to see all these people, I couldn’t ask for anything better: it’s truly the best for football, it’s going to be a great night.”

Yesterday you had a dinner with the club’s legends: what was the significance of that?

“My goal is to bring Milan back to the top, and obviously, to do that, we need content. When I arrived here, I immediately understood the importance of this, and obviously the legends who built Milan are the foundation of this.

“We want to do more and more in this regard, and we also want to create partnerships with the past to take Milan back to where we want to be in the future.”

Amorim was your choice…

“Yes, he’s my coach… We have a great relationship, he’s doing a great job with the team, with the players. He’s truly a coach, he’s a manager: he’s helping the players grow, and that’s what I want. I’m happy with the choice I made.”

How will you move on the market?

We want to be active for a long time: I want and will always want to be active in every transfer window, trying to take advantage of every opportunity that arises.

“As I said and always repeat publicly when I took ownership of this club in June 2022, I want to bring it back to the top of Italian and European football. We are doing our best, and an announcement will be made soon.”

What did you think the first time you were told that the stadium would be shared with Inter?

“The new stadium is truly a partnership between Milan and Inter, and I have the utmost respect for Inter. That said, we want to win tonight.

“There’s a partnership for the stadium, and I, for my part, want to make the most of my experience gained in the United States, and therefore of the financial aspect we’ll put on the table as Milan, to ensure this stadium is the best.

“Bringing the best of our experience in the United States not only to Milan, but also to Serie A, compared to what it has always been.”
