Bompastor on Potter injury worry and Chelsea’s win over Roma
Sonia Bompastor says Chelsea will assess Lexi Potter after the midfielder suffered a knee injury during their 2-0 Champions League win over Roma.
Potter was forced off after receiving treatment on the pitch, with Bompastor confirming the 20-year-old was in some pain following the game.
“She picked up a knock on her knee, but it’s too soon for us to see how she is,” Bompastor said.
“She has a little bit of pain, but we’ll be able to assess her properly tomorrow and see how it is.
“I spoke a little bit with the medical team, but I don’t have enough information.”
Second-half goals from Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan secured the victory for Chelsea, who have now taken seven points from their opening three league-phase matches and are yet to concede in the competition.
“Tonight and on Sunday, we rotated the team a little bit,” Bompastor said on the victory.
“Probably the first half was not good enough tonight, and it’s always important for us to come into the second half with solutions and the mindset to turn things around.
“I’m pleased with the fact we scored really early in the second half. We could probably have killed the game a little bit earlier.
“In these kinds of matches, if you don’t kill it off, you just leave the hope for the opponent. When that’s the case, they have a lot of energy and confidence.
“It’s important for us in these games to be able to be clinical and ruthless as early as possible.
“But we find different ways to impose ourselves in the game and to score goals. So it’s good.”
