Davide Bartesaghi worryingly claimed that AC Milan did not show ‘the right attitude’ from minute one of their defeat to Ferencvaros.

Milan went into the match against the Hungarian side needing a win to start correcting what had been a negative course so far in the Europa League, yet they served up probably their worst performance of the season so far.

Lenny Joseph scored twice in the second half which gave Ferencvaros a memorable night at San Siro, but it was one that their performance merited in truth. The Rossoneri threw big names on in the second half but were unable to break the visitors down, even after they got a red card.

Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back in his post-match interview, while Koni De Winter spoke of psychological issues. Bartesaghi spoke to Sky following the conclusion of the game to provide his assessment on things, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

What was missing?

“We knew it would be difficult, especially in Europe. We lacked attitude, grit, and the desire to fight for second balls, and we paid for it.”

Are there any signs of such performances?

“We knew everything, even about our opponents. We’ve been training well during the week, and we were especially enthusiastic after the derby. The alarm bells went off later, on the pitch. In the second half, we tried to recover as much as we could, but we weren’t able to.”

What is behind the attitude issues?

“We lacked attitude right from the start. We needed to react immediately and not wait to take hits. They created opportunities through our mistakes. “Starting tomorrow, we’ll lick our wounds and see what went wrong, approaching the next match with the right determination and a different team spirit.”
