Amorim: ‘Milan system doesn’t matter as much as being aggressive’
Ruben Amorim insists the tactical system Milan use against Sassuolo ‘doesn’t matter, it’s about the way you play’ with aggression, and once again defends Goncalo Ramos.
It kicks off at the Mapei Stadium at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).
This is a complicated fixture in Rossoneri lore, as while they have struggled repeatedly against Sassuolo in recent years, it is also the venue where they won the most recent Scudetto back in 2022.
Amorim keeps focus off Milan tactics
“They told me this is a hard place to play in recent years, but also won the Scudetto here, so it’s both sides of football,” Amorim told Sky Sport Italia.
“There are mixed memories, but this is a different season, we want to win, we want to play well and continue our journey.”
Luka Modric is rested, so Yunus Musah steps into the midfield with Adrien Rabiot, while Diego Moreira and Christian Pulisic support Goncalo Ramos.
Matteo Gabbia gets his first start of the season and Pervis Estupinan recovered in record time from a knock on international duty with Ecuador.
“With Milan, everything is important, even a training session. We just need to win and play well. That is the burden of playing for a big club. Every day is a test for our team, for our club, and we need to do better than in the past.”
The Rossoneri changed to a four-man defence before the break for international duty and it paid off with a 3-0 victory over Lecce, so that system is maintained this evening too, at least on paper.
“You will see if it is a line of four or three, I think we can be aggressive and play well in different systems. I don’t believe it is about the system only, it is the way you play,” noted Amorim.
“It’s about the aggression you put into every ball, so the system doesn’t matter, we need to be aggressive in every game.”
Goncalo Ramos was on fine form for Portugal in the Nations League, yet has been rather toothless so far in the Milan jersey.
“I talked with the team, I am not concerned with the goals of Ramos, he is doing a very good job. We need to improve as a team, and if we improve as a team, then we can all score more goals,” concluded Amorim.
