Adani: “Amorim is of the highest calibre and represents a break from Allegri’s outdated approach. AC Milan should avoid Juventus’s mistakes”
Despite major injury problems, AC Milan are enjoying an outstanding league campaign. They remain unbeaten after 3 draws and 5 wins and sit just 4 points behind leaders Inter.
That is down to the work of Ruben Amorim, yet AC Milan supporters continue to put the Portuguese manager under considerable pressure. Yesterday, Lele Adani defended him on his show Viva el Futbol, calling for patience with a manager he described as "of the highest calibre".
The right manager after “the obsolete” Allegri
"I believe this team - which remains difficult to assess - have finally found the right manager to make a clear break with the past, characterised by a style of football that is now obsolete and no longer suited to the modern game, like Allegri's. It seems to me that people have also been clear on this point, speaking very highly of Amorim's footballing ideas."
Fans should be patient
"What I would like to keep seeing is steady progress, and that is the main aim, although I am asking the fans to have a little patience. Do you know why? Because patience, trust and time are things you also have to earn on the pitch.
I heard someone say a few weeks ago that you have to earn trust; and it is curious when you consider that, by contrast, there are those who have had unlimited time... Or rather, have had it for a full seven years, continuing to enjoy trust and enormous investment, probably without having done anything to truly deserve it."
No one is given time at Milanello
"By contrast, anyone who arrives at Milanello is given nothing — and I think of how even Fonseca was given so little time, or Conceicao, who had won a trophy and played in another final before being sacked, or Allegri, who was kept on until the very last minute despite failing to qualify for the Champions League."
Avoid Juve’s mistakes
"I say: let’s avoid repeating the mistakes Juventus have made in recent years, when they kept making changes without achieving anything. I ask AC Milan fans and the owners to be patient with Ruben Amorim, because his approach to football, the work ethic he instils and his ability to understand players’ minds, hearts and qualities are all of the highest calibre."
"We need the strength to grow within a footballing philosophy that must be recognised as the right one. It is not so much about the formation as about involvement: think of decisions such as fielding two full-backs and making the most of Bartesaghi, particularly for his attacking drive. Amorim is trying to get the most out of a squad in which a great deal has been invested, including that centre-forward who — I repeat — is an exceptionally good player and who we expect will soon show it again on the pitch."
