AC Milan, concern for Loftus-Cheek: substituted against Bournemouth after a knock to the knee
The midfielder was substituted because of a physical problem, not for tactical reasons.
When it rains, it pours for Milan. This time, neither the driving rain in Bournemouth nor the resounding 3-0 defeat at the Vitality Stadium is the problem.
Another player who featured in the Europa League has joined the already long list of injured players or those unavailable to Ruben Amorim: Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Englishman suffered a knock during the match that caused a knee problem.
It was not a tactical change
The former Chelsea player started the match, but AC Milan fell 2-0 behind in the first half and went down to 10 men when captain Maignan received a straight red card. Somewhat surprisingly, Amorim replaced Loftus-Cheek at half-time with Adrien Rabiot, who had been rested at the start of the match.
Though it initially looked like a snub and a tactical decision, a physical problem Loftus-Cheek had suffered forced the change.
Knee problem
According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Milannews, Loftus-Cheek felt discomfort after taking a heavy blow to the back of his knee, forcing his substitution. Milan have yet to comment on the extent of the problem. It remains unclear whether he will need further tests. The discomfort does at least explain why Amorim replaced him with Rabiot at the start of the second half.
