“We will need everyone” – Mika Baur calls for Celtic unity
Celtic midfielder Mika Baur has called on all his teammates to stick together after the recent run of defeats that’s threatening to derail the clubs season.
Baur was on international duty with Germany, and was thrilled to win his first cap after appearing as a substitute in a 2-0 nations league win over Serbia, and also made a late appearance a goalless draw with Greece.
Despite the negativity surrounding the club due to those losses, two of which were against bitter rivals the Rangers, Baur says he felt a togetherness in the squad as they trained ahead of today’s trip to face Motherwell at Fir Park.
“It’s the same Mika Baur coming back,” he said at his pre-match mainstream media conference at Lennoxtown on Friday afternoon. “Maybe with a bit more confidence, a bit more experience, but no, I’m the same.
“Today in training, I felt everyone is looking forward to Sunday, when it starts again, that we can do some things much better than we did before the break.
“I think the break was maybe at a good point as well to come together again, stick together, work on a few things and yeah, everyone is looking forward to Sunday.
“I was not here the last two weeks, so it was my first day today, but I have the feeling that everyone is close together, the team is close,” Baur said.
“ So just positive, nothing I’m worried about. I can understand it because we lost three big matches the week before the national break,” he added.
“So absolutely okay, and I knew it, in big clubs, it’s usual as well. So it’s absolutely okay, the criticism, because we deserved it at that moment, but now we need them as well again to perform in the next week.
“We have a lot of games, a lot of Sunday-Thursday-Sunday weeks, so we need everyone.”
With the Rangers winning 3-1 at Ibrox yesterday against Kilmarnock and Hearts hammering Hearts 5-0 at Tynecastle, the top of the table is tight with this morning with Celtic point behind the latest Ibrox club and Hearts moving to within two points of the Hoops with Celtic still to play today.
Hearts are of course at Parkhead next Sunday so it is imperative that Celtic get back on the horse today at Motherwell and collect the three points.
The travelling Celtic support will of course back the team so unity will stretch that far at least. As for the suits in the stand there’s no back chance of them getting much backing.
