Partick Thistle forward Tony Watt, who once famously scored for Celtic against a star studded Barcelona as an 18 year old has hailed the former Fulham youngster’s “world class movement” in the brilliant Celtic showing at the weekend.

Remarkably it was Callum Osmand’s first ever professional start, and it was one to savour as he notched a brace against the Jambos in the 7-1 mauling despite lasting just 45 minutes before being replaced by the returning Jota at half time.

The first half double took the 20 year old’ Celtic tally to four, win three of those arriving against the Jambos, whilst the other was against the Rangers in last season’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final win at Hampden, showing the he’s clearly a player for the big occasion.

Watt, who was thrust into the limelight as a teenager at Celtic, knows a talent when he sees one, and more importantly knows what it takes to make the grade at Celtic, and believes that Osmand has all the attributes to be a huge success.

Former Celtic striker Tony Watt came across Osmand during a pre-season match against Partick Thistle, and was immediately impressed by the young player’s intelligence and timing as well as his exceptional work rate.

Watt said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: “I saw enough of him last season to be excited. He works his socks off. But we played him in a pre-season friendly and his movement in behind, and I’m not exaggerating here, it was world class.”

Watt hopes the injury is minor and believes Osmand possesses a rare quality. “I’m hoping it’s not an injury because the boy’s struggled with injuries,” Watt added.

Martin O’Neill spoke after the match about his decision to substitute Osmand at the break being influenced by the medical team as there was a hamstring concern. However it was a case of better safe that sorry and the change was more precautionary than anything else.

On that basis we should be seeing young Osmand in the starting Celtic XI tomorrow evening against Celta Vigo. However Jota won’t be involved as he wasn’t included in the Celtic squad for the Europa League.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
